多动点脑筋不是为了他,而是为了自己......

iPhone 4 - DIGI's Carnival At Quill 9, Petaling Jaya

DIGI has thrown an iphone 4 carnival at Quill 9, Section 14, Petaling Jaya last weekend. The day before, I was too excited as I have been waiting for the iphone for so long.
It started 10am till night on Saturday and Sunday. We reached Quill 9 at 10.30am. Many people already thronged into the mall! It was indescribable crowded!

Car park was free both inside and outside the building. It was my first time been to Quill 9 although I am staying so nearby to the area. It was kinda weird when I first encountered that DIGI a telecommunication company having a carnival inside an automobile centre. Haha!

I was extremely upset and disappointed when the promoter told me that all numbers has finished for 1st batch (morning) as there was 2nd batches open for public. And advised me to go to the nearest DIGI centre in SS2 or else wait for the 2nd batch by 4pm. So I took their advice and went to SS2 with hopes. I was surprised when I reached SS2 branch as there were not many customers. I saw a ang mo promoter there and quickly checked with her. Unfortunately she told me all iphone 4 at the branch has finished for that day and asked me to return on Sunday. I told her I can’t as I wouldn’t be in town on Sunday. Then she asked me to wait so that she can check for me. Too bad.. She returned with bad news! L I also asked the ang mo lady how come she can’t let me sign up on that day since there were not many customers. She mentioned that they have limited stock for each branch, many customers from Quill 9 came there too. These people were just like me. And they got the same answer too. According to the ang mo lady, those customers successfully registered were those who waited from 6.30am at DIGI’s doorstep.

I nearly gave up, pity Steven for accompanied (he reached Malaysia very late on Friday’s night and slept late then woke up early morning just to accompany me). So I suggested going for brunch (as both of us was rushing and skipped breakfast). We decided to go to Restaurant Paramount Garden.

It was 12pm by the time we finished makan, I told Steven i wanna try for a last chance. So Steven drove me over to Quill 9 again. But the promoters told me to come back by 330-4pm. The reason given was they will only distribute numbers at 4pm. So coincidently I saw Minny and her beloved hubby were there too. We went for drinks while waiting for time to pass.

By 3pm, we came back again. Very unfortunately, we were told by the promoter that they are not able to give out the number as there were still too many customers (1st batch) and they can’t promise if there is any iphone left by the 4pm. Walao!! I was so mad but control my temper. I mean what can I do? They suggested me to go to SOHO, Solaris. I was told that there were still have iphone left. I don’t know if I wanna trust them anymore. I was so tired and disappointed! However, Steven still drove me all the way from PJ to SOHO, Solaris.

Thanks God! I started to believe ‘never give up until your last breath’! When I heard the promoter said ‘YES, we still have iphone 4, 16GB’.. I was jumping here and there like a small little girl! Lol

It took about ½ hour for the whole process and I finally I got my long awaited iphone 4!!!

Because of this, I got a lesson. If you really looking forward for a particular thing, go as early as you can when there is having in such giant event / launching no matter how long you have to wait. You’ll feel that is so worth it when you really got the thing! The feeling is INDESCRIBABLE!!!

For those who got your iphone 4, I would like to congrats you and welcome to the iphone 4’s world! Enjoy your baby!! :)

Restaurant Famous Seremban Favorites, Sunway Mas Commercial Centre

When i first read about this restaurant via Vkeong's blog. I was too excited of the restaurant name - Famous Seremban Favourites! I am a Serembanian and obviously i get excited and happy to see my hometown local delicacies selling in the big city of Klang Valley.

From outside of the restaurant, you might find it a quite nondescript looking shoplot. Especially when they're close. The restaurant's gate fulled of 'Along' sticker!

I have read many food bloggers mentioned that this is a very busy restaurant, etc.. etc.. True enough! The restaurant was thronged when we reached. Service was pretty slow, guess someone must have a very good patience to come here during peak hours.

There are many dishes avaialble here. You can opt for chicken rice or selecting one of the few types of noodles to go with the Char Siew.

I ordered one medium sized plate of Char Siew to share with my colleague as both of us ordered Hakka Mee.

With the fat and the lean part nicely defined and balance, the BBQ pork was tender, well-marbled, the sides of the Char Siew were well charred and nice portion of glistering caramelized coating on it. I tasted the smell of the smoking charcoal too. No doubt they are famous for its Char Siew. But hor, somehow i felt something was missing of the Char Siew, hard to explain. It is lacked of the taste that i wanted. I still prefer the Ming Kei Char Siew in Glenmarie, cos it gave me the expression 'melts in your mouth' when i took a first bite of the Char Siew!

Medium Size Char Siew (RM12), one person portion (RM6)
The caramel sauce is not poured over on the Char Siew like other places, but was given on small plates.

To me, i think Char Siew and caramel sauce must paired together always.

Roasted Chicken (RM6) for one person portion. Chicken was so-so only.

I noticed more people ordered Hakka Mee rather than rice. I am a Hakka Mee fan.. So i decided to go for it.. :)

Hakka Mee (RM3.80-small) and (RM4.80-Big). Their noodles are kinda like homemade noodle. Very fresh and tasted great! I love it!

This is an ideal great place for a satisfying meal with good taste and impressive varieties to choose from. Not like other Char Siew restaurant, only serves their signature dishes such as Char Siew or chicken.

Fish & Co, 1 Utama

This is not my first time in Fish & Co, 1 Utama. The last time I been here was probably last year.

It was Ramadan on that day. We reached by 6pm. Many tables already reserved for buka puasa.

We ordered a Seafood Platter for two and Mussels with Garlic & Lemon Butter.

In conjunction of Ramadan month, the restaurant added Air Bandung in their drink menu.

The mussels cooked with garlic and lemon butter is our must order dish ever time we come here. The sauce really opened up our appetite. I just couldn’t stop dipping the baguette in the sauce. Steven said the New Zealand mussels were good too.

Mussels with Garlic & Lemon Butter Sauce. (RM12.90)

The baguettes were quite hard this time. Standard dropped!

Tartar sauce and Tomato sauce

Seafood Platter for two topped with lemon butter sauce and some parsley, and served with chips. The fish was crispy on the outside, enclosing its soft and flaky flesh. It goes well with the lemon juice and tartar sauce. However, the calamari rings were way below standard as it was served in cold and not crispy.

Seafood Platter for two (RM47.90)

I must say the food portion was pretty huge, but in food presentation wise, it isn't that appealing. Price are reasonable.

Dare To Love..

“Cinderella walked on broken glass, Sleeping beauty let her whole life pass by, Belle fell in love with a beast, Pocahontas risked her life for a feast, Jasmine could have had anyone but she chose a poor man, and Ariel, she walked on land.”

So many people dislike fairytales because it makes us believe in love, believe that a prince will swoop down and save us when something goes wrong. But I’ve come to realise that in every fairytale-like movie, every girl took a risk. Took a risk for love, took a risk in the name of love.

So, how do we know if our own fairytale won’t really happen if we don’t try, if we stop believing in love? I know it’s hard for some of you to put down their guard and to learn to trust someone else sometimes.

I know because I’ve been through it. People like us, we distance ourselves from people we genuinely like just because we are afraid to get hurt. But does building up these walls ultimately saves us from hurting?

It doesn’t.

We’ve got to know that these people, the people we are blocking out because of our own insecurities, will leave someday too. Leave for something better. Everyone will cause you pain and hurt and tears, but you have to decide who’s worth it. And when you make that decision, happiness will come to you. =)

When You're Away...

Madam Kwan's Restaurant, Suria KLCC

I'm sure lots of people know the famous Nasi Lemak from Madam Kwan, it's one of their in-house specialty which is well known to all.

Madam Kwan is local franchise brand and it's spreading out 5 branches across famous shopping mall around Kuala Lumpur. If you are looking for a nice place to try out Malaysian local dishes, Madam Kwan is the perfect place although the prices are a bit pricey. I would call this restaurant a high-end hawker restaurant! They have all sorts of Malaysian food from their famous nasi lemak to Chinese style chicken rice to Indian style fish head curry and local desserts. Good place to bring friends from abroad to sample local cuisines!

The restaurant has an upmarket look but without trying to be too pretentious, walking a fine line between Asian and Western style decor. The waitresses and waiters are all smartly dressed and guests are served with glasses of strawberry scented cold water.

I, mom and Joanne visited their branch restaurant at KLCC after we have done our shopping. This is my second time in Madam Kwan's. It's located at the 4th floor of Suria KLCC. It was early evening, I noticed that the place wasn’t packed with many people. However I saw a group of people were talking to the waiter, and the waiter was flipping a reservation book and tried to made reservation for them. No doubt, because it was Ramadan. Customer needs to make prior booking to dine in for buka puasa. We were lucky, as the waiter allowed us to go in because it was still early (around 5.30pm).

As I mentioned, most of the foods served in Madam Kwan are very local delights and It's not exactly a cheap place for food. I can get a plate of Nasi Lemak less than RM6 but why people still go to Madam Kwan for Nasi Lemak? For sure have a reason mah.. When tons of people said the Nasi Lemak in Madam Kwan is good, then it must be really good, earning the good reputation!

The rice was absolutely delicious, fragrant and not too oily! The sambal ikan bilis and curry chicken was very good too, complement nicely with the rice. Adding the sambal ikan bilis and curry chicken into every spoon into your mouth boost up the sensation. I really don’t know how to describe it, try out yourself. I love it and you might probably love it too!

The Madam Kwan's specialty Nasi Lemak (RM15.30). The rice was fragrant alright and not too oily. Served with curry chicken, sambal ikan bilis, dried shrimp floss, and hard boiled egg. Acar (Nyonya styled salad) that's served together with the Nasi Lemak.

Char Kway Teow (RM15.90). It consisted of flat rice noodles fried with chicken, bean sprouts, sotong, egg and crunchy prawns.

Spaghetti Alfrado (RM18.90) This Spaghetti Alfrado is served with turkey ham and in white sauce. Simple it may look but my mom said it is good and the white sauce was really rich.

♪♫•.....I like dessert.......•♫♪

It is a MUST order dessert in Madam Kwan's! CENDOL!!

STEP 1:

Their gula malacca tastes sooooo good!!

STEP 2:

Pour the Gula Melaka on the Cendol..

STEP 3:

Cendol (RM6.50) mixed with thick gula Melaka and Santan! Thumbs Up!

As long as my mom happy.. I am happy! :)

Boston, Seremban - Kampua Mee

I went to Boston again. This time i have tried their new menu - Kampua Mee. I am not sure this is their very latest menu, i assumed it is as i din't see it when i last visited since June 2010.
S0me people might mistakenly thought that 'Kolo mee' and 'Miri dry mee' is not the same. Either in the name or the taste. Like the sibu one is call "kam pua" mee. Actually they are the same.

Kampua Mee (RM6.90) It was a simple dish of noodles topped with some fish cakes, a few stem of vegetable and a sprinkling of spring onions, and served with a bowl of soup with 3 meat balls. I simply like it because the noodles was very crunchy even though it was quite plain.

Joanne ordered Roti Canai (RM2.95). It was quite crispy.

Please see review that i have blogged couple of months ago.

Yin Keh Lou (迎客楼), Sunway Pyramid

I planned to treat mom a nice dinner on her first day in KL couple of weeks ago. We moped around before deciding on Ying Ker Lou (迎客楼), Sunway Pyramid.

The Ying Ker Lou chain of Hakka cuisine restaurant seem to be doing pretty well and their branches has been mushrooming in Klang Valley. Four outlets located in prominent shopping malls in Klang Valley: The Curve, Pavilion, Sunway Pyramid and The Gardens.

Actually this is my first time here. I found their dishes very close to home-cooked food.

Immediately as soon as we sat down, a complimentary steamed ground peanuts was served. From the picture, you can see they served good quality large sized steamed ground peanuts. When the bill came, we got to know that the so called complimentary peanuts were actually not a complimentary after all. It costs RM3. Aiya, I forgot this world where got free lunch one? Right? Hmm, you eat and you pay!

Peanuts (RM3)

When we looked at the menu, three of us were blurred as we are not familiar of Hakka cuisine / food. Except those most famous one such as Lei Char and Hakka Yam Abacus Beads. However, the menu was easy to read with beautiful photos depicting and Chinese – English explanations.

Japanese Green Tea (RM4). It can be refilled.

Lei Cha (擂茶) is one of the must-try dishes for Hakka cuisine. Here you will be given a choice of brown rice or white rice to go Lei Cha with variety of cooked vegetables, bean curd, peanuts, white sesame seeds and fried shrimps (very crispy, NICE!). I find that those ingredients given to add in our Lei Cha was very fresh! The most important element of Lei Cha is the soup which is pounded from a comportment of tea leaves and herbs. The soup will be poured into the vegetables and rice and it is best to eat it immediately. Taste wise, it was great! The mint taste wasn't very strong which is quite acceptable to most people especially me as I always hesitate to eat this dish because of its strong mint taste. It is a nutritious meal and after tried the Lei Char here I immediately felt in love with it. The serving portion was quite big but we managed to finish it as three of us were sharing.

Hakka Pounded Tea, aka Lei Cha (擂茶) (RM13.90)

I simply love it!

Hakka Yam Abacus (算盘子) (RM17). Made of steamed yam, mashed and mixed with flour. It was stir fried with mushrooms and Wood Fungus ( Moo Er) and Dried Shitake Mushrooms. I found the dish quite insipid me and it does not tasted as good as I expected.
Hakka Yam Abacus (算盘子) (RM17)
Hakka Sauteed Assorted Mushrooms (客家炒野菇) (RM18)

Claypot Tau fu with minced meat and egg was actually made us quite disappointed as it tasted very salty and it has kinda weird smell.

Tofu with Ground Pork (瓦煲肉碎豆腐) (RM18)
♪♫•.....Here is the dessert.......•♫♪

Potato Ginger Soup (姜糖番薯糖水) (RM6)

Rice Dumpling Sesame Soup (芝麻糊汤圆) (RM7)

♪♫•.....Picture Time.......•♫♪

Me & mom

Joanne & mom

White rice was RM2 a bowl. Everything here is NO MSG as stated on the menu. I think this is one of the reason people keep coming here despite on the high sky price!

We are so stuffed and fullfilled after the dinner. Hopefully i can come here soon again to try other dishes. It's not cheap and i think the prices are a 'lil steep! It's definitely not an everyday Chinese restaurant but i would come here once a while when i have the crave for Hakka food.

EAT-ZY Teow Chew Porridge & Rice, Sunway Mas Commercial Centre

I am not a porridge fan. When I was a little girl, I used to think that porridge is only eating when I am ill. Porridge is waterly, tasteless or whatever.. I just I don’t like it. When I grow older, I was introduced to makan Teochew porridge by a relative. I was surprised there were many types of dishes to go with it.

In the olden days, when one mentioned about teochew porridge, side dishes like pickled lettuce, salted duck egg and salt fish will automatically come to mind. However, as days passed by, people tend to add more varieties on it.

Me and colleague came to this not so outstanding Teochew porridge and rice restaurant in Sunway Mas Commercial Centre here. We found a table outside so that my colleague able to take beautiful picture with natural light! (He is a photography freak, man!!! Lol) Despite I was feeling very hot and sweating, but worth it! Because I quite enjoyed the food here and can’t bother much of the hot weather! Haha!!
