Octopus Card (八達通卡)


We bought this Octopus Card when we arrived in Hong Kong International Airport. This card can be added value if it is nearly over the limit. This can be done in everywhere such as MTR station, 7-11, and other places, very convenient.

Launched in September 1997, Octopus is the pioneering electronic ticketing system that makes travelling easier and more enjoyable. All Octopus Cards contain a built-in microchip that contains detailed fare information for many modes of transport. You simply swipe your Octopus Card over the Fare Deducting Processor as you pass through the ticket gates and enter the MTR system. Octopus Cards are available in Adult, Elder, Child and Personalised versions.
Octopus Cards are incredibly versatile and can be used to pay for multiple modes of transport including the MTR, Airport Express, Light Rail, buses and ferries, etc. Once you have an Octopus, you don't have to worry about scrabbling around in your pocket or purse for coins ever again!Octopus Cards are so user-friendly and being widely accepted by most public payphones, vending machines and photo booths in transport premises.

Returning and Obtaining a Refund on a Normally Functioning Octopus Card
You may return and obtain a refund for a normally functioning Octopus Card at any Customer Service Centre. To be eligible for a refund, the returned card must be in good condition and have a remaining value not exceeding HK$500. If not, your card will be sent to Octopus Cards Limited for further handling. If returning an Octopus Card within three months of its issue date, you will be required to pay a refund handling fee of HK$7.
